WordTheatre Programs

In WordTheatre’s signature Author/Actor events, we select exquisitely crafted, emotionally rich stories penned by the finest authors working today. We cast and direct an actor to bring each story to life. Certain stories inspire different structures. We cast six actors to read a Denis Johnson story at the Brooklyn Book Fair. At The Latitude Festival in England a cast of nine read a David Means story. Weaving together stories from John Edgar Wideman’s literary exploration of his African American heritage, our original production ‘Storytales’ at LA’s Ford Amphitheatre featured 30 actors, 17 hip hop dancers, a djembe drummer and an original score spun live on stage. We draw on this Actor/Author dynamic to produce several programs in support of our mission:
