MIDSOMMAR: Short Stories & Music on the Eve of the Longest Day
June 20 @ 7:30 am - 10:00 pm
A Night in Sensuous Scandinavia
On the eve of the longest day of the year, a scintillating cast of internationally renowned actors including Bellamy Young (Scandal) Indira Varma (Game of Thrones) Ian Hart (The Last Kingdom) and Michael Nouri (Flashdance), bring to life prose and poetry by contemporary Scandinavian authors with an original live score composed by Jonathan Sacks featuring Lizzie Ball on Violin and Pedro Segundo on Percussion. Heralded as “the short story performance experts” by the Sunday Times, WordTheatre’s productions perfectly match actors with stories and weave them together with music in such a way as to transport you into the realm of the imagination. World class musicians join in the magic. Produced and directed by WordTheatre’s Artistic Director Cedering Fox with WordTheatre UK Producer Kirsty Peart.
Michael Nouri, featured prominently in Ryan Murphy’s American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace (2017), will always be loved for Flashdance (1983).
Bellamy Young is an American actress and singer, best known for her role as President Melody “Mellie” Grant in the ABC drama series Scandal (2012–2018). In 2014, for her portrayal of Mellie, Young won the Critics’ Choice Television Award for Best Supporting Actress in a Drama Series.
COMPOSER & MUSICIANS
Composer Jonathan Sacks has worked as a composer and orchestrator on over 30 feature films over the past 25 years, including Seabiscuit, Cars, and both X-Files films. He created orchestral arrangements for Metallica, Kiss, Steve Martin and The Steep Canyon Rangers. Sacks has written several dozen scores for productions with San Diego Repertory Theatre, Antaeus Theatre, and Shakespeare Festival, LA among others.
Northern English violinist Lizzie Ball’s performances are engagingly flavored with jazz, world, folk, bluegrass and rock. Her high impact musical experiences deliver a modern and creative touch, rejuvenating the fundamentals of the classical genre. These embellishments to her sound, the freedom of her improvisation, a different take on execution and a supplementing of various styles, create an unexpected result, she isn’t what you’d expect when you think of a typical classical musician.
Portuguese-born Pedro Segundo is known internationally for his incredible musical energy with all things percussion. Pedro is house drummer of Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Club in England. He has toured in Europe, North America, and the Far East, with renowned musicians such as Dennis Rollins, Academy of Saint Martin in the Fields with Sir Neville Marriner, Murray Perahia, Joshua Bell, and more recently with his own Solo Segundo, Judith Owen and Kansas Smitty’s House Band.
