WordTheatre returned to Chatsworth with performances of world class short stories in the private theatre of the 12th Duke of Devonshire.


  • Simon Shepherd (The Duck House – Vaudeville Theatre, Peak Practice) read “I Dated Jane Austen” by T.C. Boyle.
  • Brenda Strong (Dallas, Desperate Housewives) read “Mountains” by Andre Dubus III.
  • Lesley Nicol (Mrs. Patmore from Downton Abbey) read “The Undertaker’s Wife” by David Almond.
  • Ben Miller (The Duck House – Vaudeville Theatre, Death in Paradise) read “Critical Responses to my Last Relationship” by Joe Dunthorne.
  • John Schwab (Yellow Face – National Theatre, Zero Dark Thirty) read his original story, “Looking for Mary”.

Andre Dubus III

There was a special appearance by renowned author Andre Dubus III (House of Sand and Fog, Townie, Dirty Love). The New York Times bestselling author has been a finalist for the National Book Award, and has been awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship, The National Magazine Award for Fiction, two Pushcart Prizes, and is a 2012 recipient of an American Academy of Arts and Letters Award in Literature.
