WordTheatre gave voice to great writing at the exclusive Soho House West Hollywood. A selection of well known actors and authors joined us for readings of lauded contemporary stories followed by a Q & A with the artists.

  • Adrian Pasdar (The Lying Game, Heroes) read Hal Ackerman
  • Ian Hart (Luck, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone) read Evgenia Citkowitz
  • Julian Sands (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, 24) read Ben Okri (not appearing)

About the Authors:

  • Hal Ackerman – Ackerman is the author of two novels, most recently Stein, Stung; and the co-area head of UCLA’s screenwriting program. His stories have been widely published in literary journals and he is a Warren Adler Award winner, author of one of Southeast Review’s World’s Best Short Shorts, and a Pushcart Prize nominee.
  • Evgenia Citkowitz – “How coolly poised, Evgenia Citkowitz’s prose! And how elegantly and richly detailed her fictional worlds!…Sharply observed, resolutely unsentimental, and wholly engaging.” – Joyce Carol Oates, The new York Review of Books
  • Ben Okri – Winner of the Booker Prize win for his novel The Famished Road, Okri is a Nigerian born author and poet. “Okri’s magical realism is distinctive; his prose is charged with passion and energy, electrifying in its imagery … a powerful, compassionate vision of modern Africa and the magical heritage of its myths.” – Publisher’s Weekly
