The annual Forward Prizes are regarded by poets internationally as the highest of accolades. Past winners include Thom Gunn, Seamus Heaney, Ted Hughes and Carol Ann Duffy. As a prelude to National Poetry Day, and for the first time in the prizes’ twenty-two-year history, the prizes were given away on stage. Guests heard the best of 2013’s poetry brought to life by a WordTheatre cast, before applauding – or disputing – the judges’ final choices. Cast included:
  • Gemma Chan (The Double, Submarine)
  • Joe Dixon (The Mummy Returns, 32 Brinkburn Street)
  • Martin Jarvis (The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Titanic)
  • Helen McCrory (Skyfall, Hugo)
  • Natascha McElhone (Californication, The Truman Show)
  • Damien Molony (Being Human, Ripper Street)
  • Ray Panthaki (28 Days Later…, Ali G Indahouse)
  • Juliet Stevenson (Bend It Like Beckham, Truly Madly Deeply)
  • Ony Uhiara (The Crouches, Much Ado About Nothing at The Globe)
  • Samuel West (Van Helsing, Notting Hill)

The evening also marked the publication launch of the 2013 Forward Book of Poetry. For more information about the prize, please visit http://bit.ly/10HMaUt
