WordTheatre with Marisa Silver and Maile Meloy

Two new stories by Maile Meloy and Marisa Silver were read by Johnny Simmons and Jason George. Q&A with the authors followed the readings.
- Marisa Silver – Silver is the author, most recently, of the novel, Mary Coin, a New York Times Bestseller, published in 2013 by Blue Rider Press/Penguin. Silver made her fiction debut in The New Yorker when she was featured in that magazine’s first “Debut Fiction” issue. Her collection of short stories, Babe in Paradise was named a New York Times Notable Book of the Year and was a Los Angeles Times Best Book of the Year. Her novel, The God of War, was a finalist for the Los Angeles Times Book Prize for fiction. Winner of the O. Henry Prize, her fiction has been included in The Best American Short Stories, The O. Henry Prize Stories, as well as other anthologies.
- Maile Meloy – is a New York Times bestseller for The Apothecary and won the 2012 E.B. White Award. She is also the author of the novels Liars and Saintsand A Family Daughter, and the story collections Half in Love and Both Ways Is the Only Way I Want It, which was named one of the Ten Best Books of2009 by the New York Times Book Review and one of the best books of the year by the Los Angeles Times and Amazon.com. Meloy’s stories have been published in The New Yorker, The Paris Review, Granta, and other publications, and she has received The Paris Review’s Aga Khan Prize for Fiction, the PEN/Malamud Award for Excellence in the Short Story, the Rosenthal Foundation Award from the American Academy of Arts and Letters, two California Book Awards, and a Guggenheim Fellowship. In 2007, she was chosen as one of Granta’s 21 Best Young American Novelists. Her essays have appeared in the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, The New Yorker, Slate, Sunset, and O.
