Start your summer off by going to see Brad Peyton’s thrilling new disaster film San Andreas. Friend of Word Theatre®, Carla Gugino, stars in this upcoming action adventure film alongside Dwayne Johnson. This is the third movie Gugino and Johnson have starred in together after Race to Witch Mountain and Faster.

Set to come out on May 29th, the film takes place in the aftermath of a massive California earthquake as a rescue chopper pilot makes a perilous journey with his wife across the state to save their daughter. Johnson and Gugino will be playing husband and wife as they make their daring trip from Los Angeles to San Francisco to rescue their only daughter.

The two trailers that have been released show the film’s massive scale and its penchant, like most disaster films, for destroying California’s most popular landmarks: the Hollywood sign and the Golden Gate Bridge. However, this film destroys a new landmark: The Hoover Dam. The earthquake’s magnitude reaches Nevada and sends a crack straight through the Hoover Dam, releasing the Colorado River.  The trailers also feature a creepy version of The Mama’s and the Papa’s California Dreaming song, slowed down by Robot Koch & Delhia de France.

If you like action-adventure thrillers then this is one of the must sees of the summer. As die-hard Carla Gugino fans, we can’t wait for her to light up the big screen again. If you’re as much of a fan of hers as we are, then you’re in for a good couple years.  Besides starring in San Andreas, Carla is working on three other films and will make appearances on HBO’s new comedy series The Brink. Plus, in the midst of all her work, she is setting aside the time to join us as we host the 2015 Pushcart Prize Benefit on July 18th at the Guild Hall in East Hampton, New York. An event that she is somewhat of a veteran for as she read Charles Baxter’s short story “Gina’s Death” at our Pushcart Prize Benefit in 2006.
